My Story
Overview
Yushan, Taiwan’s tallest mountain, offers a rewarding yet challenging climb via the Tataka Route (8.5km one-way). The ascent typically takes 1-2 days, requiring preparation, permits, and physical endurance.
Climbing Process

Permits: Apply 1-2 months in advance via the Yushan National Park website (daily quota ~92 people).

Accommodation: Book a bed at Paiyun Lodge (3,402m) or plan a single-day round trip (high stamina required).

Gear: Warm clothing (down jacket, waterproof outerwear), hiking boots, headlamp, sleeping bag, food, water (2-3L), and garbage bags (Leave No Trace policy).

Transport: Travel from Taichung/Chiayi to Alishan, then take a shuttle/taxi to Tataka Trailhead.

Day 1: Tataka Trailhead → Paiyun Lodge (4-6 hours):

Start at Tataka Saddle (2,610m), trekking through gentle forest trails and steeper rocky paths to Paiyun Lodge.

Day 2: Paiyun Lodge → Summit → Return (3-4 hours to summit, 4-6 hours descent):
